The Evolution of The Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Certification Program

Red Hat Inc. is a platform that offers open-source software solutions. The company offers its IT solutions to more than 90% of Fortune 500 companies that include airlines, internet service providers, healthcare companies, banks among others. Mastering Red Hat certifications can equip IT professionals with skills that will enhance their career prospects in the IT industry.

The Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification program is considered to be the flagship course provided under the Red Hat banner. With RHCE certification in Pune, IT professionals can equip themselves with skills required to minimize downtime, simplify data management as well as quickly provision new resources in an organization. The RHCE certification program is one of the leading certification programs for Linux skills. However, as the industry reacts to changes due to the development of new technologies, there was a need for the RHCE certification program to evolve as well.

Evolution of the RHCE certification program
As per the latest updates available from Red Hat, there will be a change in the manner in which the RHCE certification program would function. Unlike earlier when IT professionals who were certified with Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) and who had additional skills and knowledge were acknowledged as Red Hat Certified Engineers (RHCE); the requirements for RHCE certification are altered. The focus now is on automation of Linux system administration tasks using Red Hat Ansible Automation and shell scripting.

The Red Hat organization assures that there will not be a complete re-design of the RHCE certification program and the certification will still be earned by IT professionals after clearing their RHCSA certification and the RHCE certification. However, for the certification to be valid, the RHCE certified software professionals would need to earn additional certifications. The new RHCE certification lays more emphasis on automation skills and hence, IT professionals seeking the new RHCE certification will need to prove they can perform the below functions apart from gaining the RHCSA certification.

  • They should be able to configure systems to provide networking services. This is an essential skill now as most companies look for real-time collaboration.
  • They should be able to manage system logging.
  • They should have the skills to deliver reports on system use.
  • They should be aware of the steps to format an iSCSI initiator.

The above skills along with the RHCA certification will help IT, professionals, to prepare for the new RHCE certification exam - EX300 - that is based on Red Hat Linux 7. The EX300 is available until June 2020. The IT professionals aspiring to get RHCE certification after June 2020 will need to prepare for the new exam (EX294) that will be based on the upcoming Red Hat Linux 8. Reputed institutions providing training for RHCE certification in Pune can provide guidance on the nest approach to clear this certification program.
